Situated north of the Annapurna Himal and bordering Tibet ( China ), the Mustang Region, used to be called the Kingdom of Lo , for a long time was closed to foreigners. Even after it was included in the Nepalese territory, entry was tightly restricted for foreigners. North of Kagbeni, the Kali Gandaki assumes truly epic proportions, as the trail enters a fantastic wilderness of conglomerate cliffs, eroded into bizarre pillars and shapes by the wind which Howls up the valley
every afternoon.
Between these multi coloured pastel walls of shale the river makes its way in a bed of stones, with the trail running along it at first. sFrom various crests on the high paths stunning panorama views are revealed, especially on the first day As Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri rise as huge sentinels on eiher side of the Kaligandaki to the South.
